What can I expect?
Atlantic Outlook runs 3 tours daily at 7am, 9:30am and 12 noon. The tours are weather dependent so make sure you look ahead to the weather for the week and book for a relatively windless/ still day. Tours can be cancelled due to weather so please bear this in mind (they can cancel up to 1 hour before the tour). The earlier kayaking slot tends to receive better weather conditions.
You’ll arrive for your tour and get kitted up at the Atlantic Outlook offices. Pop on some sunscreen, your life jacket, your sunnies/hat, and grab your GoPro. Leave all other valuables behind at the offices. You will then walk down to the harbour to launch the kayaks. Kayaks take 2 people so you’ll be paired with another solo person or one of the guides if you are on your own. You’ll then paddle out of the harbour and across Table Bay. The paddle is 2 hours long. The pace is scenic and you’ll have plenty of time to take in the views of Lion’s Head, Devil’s Peak, Table Mountain and Signal Hill. Keep your eyes peeled for marine visitors. Dolphins are commonly spotted on the tours. The waters in the bay are completely flat and you will feel completely safe.
Upon returning to the harbour you’ll dock the boats and head back up to the offices. You may want to bring a change of dry clothing in case you get wet on the tour.
What is the best time to go ocean kayaking?
This activity happens year round but is best enjoyed on a stil summer’s day. In June to December guests can expect whale sightings, and summer is a great time to spot dolphins!
Anything else I need to know?
You need to be 8 years or older to partake in this activity. You need to be physically fit enough to paddle a kayak. You need to weigh less than 100kg.
Luke and I went ocean kayaking with Atlantic Outlook at the beginning of 2020. It was a delayed 21st present to Luke from me. We had such an awesome time and would go back in a heart beat! The guides are such fun and make it a vibey experience. And nothing beats gliding over the ocean and watching dolphins jumping out right in front of you. If you’re looking for an adventure in Cape Town this summer then look no further than ocean kayaking with Atlantic Outlook. Not for you? Why not buy a voucher as a present for someone you know will love this experience.
