‘Tis the season to go cherry picking! Cherry picking season runs for the month of December in South Africa. You can visit Klondyke Cherry Farm in Ceres for a fun day out to pick cherries. I recently went for a wonderful cherry picking outing with my aunt Jacqui. We had a wonderful time picking ripe cherries from the trees and enjoyed a beautiful day out in the farmlands. Klondyke Cherry Farm is situated up in the mountains and you’ll enjoy the cool (almost alpine) air while wandering through the orchards. This is a great day out and the perfect family adventure this December holiday!
Where
Klondyke Cherry Farm is located near the Matroosberg just outside of Ceres. The drive from Cape Town to Klondyke Cherry Farm is just over 2 hours. You’ll follow the N1, take the Klapmuts exit, pass through Wellington, pass Tulbagh, go through Ceres and then turn right up the Matroosberg road.
What
Pick your own cherries from a working cherry farm. You’ll pay a picking fee, grab a fruit carton, and go wander through the orchards picking as many cherries as you like! Enjoy a fun day on the farm with family and friends.

You’ll be given a plastic container to fill with cherries and will pay per kilogram at the end. You can fill as many cartons as you like. Each carton can hold about 1kg of cherries.

The cherry picking season is anytime from the last week of November until end December. The exact timing of the season varies from year to year. Give Klondyke Cherry Farm a call to confirm their cherry picking season for the year.
