Cabin season is HERE and the Western Cape doesn’t have a shortage of wonderful cabins and hot tub stays near to Cape Town. If you’re looking for the perfect weekend away for these wintery months then make sure you book a stay at one of these gorgeous cabin and hot tub stays. This list is a combination of spots I’ve stayed at both on my own dime or as collaboration stays, as well as spots I haven’t visited yet but are on my bucket list.
Mountain View Cottage at The Hamlet
The Hamlet Country Retreat is located in the Hermitage Valley of Swellendam. We stayed at the Mountain View Cottage which sleeps 6 and has a hot tub with the most stunning mountain views. the cottage style is cottage core luxury and is the perfect weekend getaway spot. They have plenty of cottage options including the Mountain View which is perfect for a family trip sleeping 6, the Orchard sleeps 4, the Rose sleeps 2 and the Palm sleeps 2. The Gaia Sanctuary
The Gaia Sanctuary is the *cutest* little A-Frame cabin located on the banks of the Breede River near Swellendam. It is off-grid, tranquil and oh so cosy. they have a gas heater for the cooler months a a little weber braai outside. The kitchen is a little limited with just a small gas cooker. Waking up in the top of this cosy A-Frame is just a dream!

Africamps
Africamps is the original glamping, hot tub spot in Cape Town. While it has become a little commercial over the years it is is still a winner for a weekend away. They have locations all over South Africa, but their Western Cape locations close to Cape Town include Wellington, Stanford, Robertson, Cederberg and Swellendam. Africamps often run specials including a 3 night special in winter. The glamping tents are well-kitted with an indoor fireplace and outside braai. The hot tubs don’t have any seats in them though, so not as comfy as a traditional Kolkol.

Sky Camp
Sky Camp is South Africa’s first mirrored glass cabin making it a truly unique stay. Situated on a Honey Farm and Fynbos Conservancy near Napier, Sky Camp is secluded and peaceful. They have a Kolkol hot tub, a telescope for stargazing and all the luxurious finishing touches. Sky Camp is a truly special stay and we loved our time there. The bedroom pod is super cosy but there isn’t really anywhere to lounge comfortably. The kitchen is well-kitted and they have a gas braai.

Kogelberg Nature Reserve Mbali collection Eco Pods
The new Mbali Collection eco pods at Kogelberg Nature Reserve are the perfect weekend escape from Cape Town. Nestled inside a nature reserve, these pods are peaceful and quiet. There are plenty of hikes to do in the gorgeous surrounding Kogelberg Biosphere. There is an outdoor braai and indoor fireplace for a cosy winter stay. The kitchen is well-equiped and there’s a lovely under cover outdoor picnic seating area. There is also a communal eco-pool which is absolutely stunning. Ecotreehouse
Ecotreehouse is a firm favourite of all the eco-cabins around Cape Town. It really does have it all with an oh-so-cosy wooden treehouse cabin, beautiful details, fully equipped kitchen, gorgeous mountain views and a Kolkol hotub. Located in the Hermitage Valley of Swellendam, the location for Ecotreehouse is 10/10. You’re close to hiking trails in Marloth Nature Reserve as well as all the Swellendam gems. It is located on a farm with the owners living in the onsite farm house and there are kiddies horse-riding lessons on the farm during the week. If you’re looking for something totally remote this may not be the stay for you.

Southern Yurts
Southern Yurts is a truly unique stay in Botrivier. Southern Yurts is deeply connected to nature and all the glamping yurts are built from recycled or eco-conscious materials.They are situated on the beautiful Diepklowe Nature Reserve and you will be surrounded by nature. They have various options including the Forest View Yurt, Malachite and Kestrel Yurt Sites, as well as the River and Botanica Cabins. They offer midweek winter specials. I haven’t stayed here but would love to.

Mount Bain Cabin
Mount Bain Cabin is a GORGEOUS mountain getaway spot nestled in the Bainskloof Mountains above Wellington. It has stunning mountain views, a beautifully curated cabin with a fireplace, hot tub and plunge pool. There are a multitude of hiking routes in the area, one in the reserve that leads to a waterfall. It is the perfect secluded romantic getaway. I haven’t stayed here but would love to.

Stonewood Mountain Cabin
This one is PERFECT for a friend’s weekend away to the mountains. Stonewood Mountain Cabin sleeps 6 and has really beautiful wooden interiors with so much attention to detail. It is located inside Mount Bain Private Nature Reserve which has many hiking trails. It is also one of the more affordably priced cabins for a larger group. I haven’t stayed here but would love to.

Bokrivier Cottages
Bokrivier Cottages are nestled along the foothills of the Riviersonderend Mountain range on a pecan,cattle and fynbos farm. There are 6 cottages available sleeping 2-8 people. Most of them have hot tubs with stunning views of the mountains. The cottages are beautifully done and have that gorgeous farmstyle decor. I haven’t stayed here but would love to.

Kolkol Mountain Lodge
Kolkol Mountain Lodge is THE ORIGINAL hot tub stay. They’re such trendsetters that they sell their hot tubs and most of the above cabin stays have a Kolkol hot tub of their own. If you’re looking for the OG spot- this is it. I haven’t stayed here but both mine and Luke’s parents have and both sets have RAVED about it. Main feedback is that the hot tubs are huge and comfy to lol around in for hours. Kolkol have a variety of cabin options sleeping 2-10 guests. They have also recently introduced the Fynbos Pods which are more modern and look gorgeous.
