Last week I published my Deep South Guide to Cape Town. This blog post was jam-packed with all the hidden gems in Kommetjie, Scarborough, Cape Point, Miller’s point, Simonstown and Noordhoek. In continuing with my Deep South series, this week’s blogpost is featuring Muizenberg. The sleepy surfer town of Muizenberg has so much to offer making it the perfect weekend adventure spot. Below you’ll find a guide to all the best things to do while exploring Muizenberg.

Muizenberg

Go surfing

Muizenberg is Cape Town’s most popular surf spot- and for good reason. It’s got something for everyone- from beginners to the more seasoned surfer. If you’re needing to rent a board and a wetsuit check out Lifestyle Surf Shop. You can grab a board and wetsuit combo for R170 or just a board for R110 and just a wetsuit for R80 for a two hour session. If you’re wanting a longer session grab a board and wetsuit for R400 for the whole day. Needing lessons? You can get lessons from Lifestyle too for R400 for a group session. Alternatively Gary’s Surf School offers start at R350 for a group session.

Check out the Street Art

Muizenberg has some pretty amazing murals around town that are definitely worth checking out. For your own street art walking tour start at Stoked Backpackers with the Stoked Mural and make your way back towards the Bluebird Market. There are all sorts of hidden gems on many different walls.

Have lunch at Harvest Cafe

Harvest Cafe made it onto my list of Cape Town Cafes That’ll Give You All The Bali Vibes and that’s because it really does feel like you’ve stepped into a Bali cafe. They have such yummy breakfast and lunch options with the perfect Balinese decor.

Do the Muizenberg to St James Walk

The Muizenberg to St James Walkway is a coastal path that connects the two seaside towns. The walk begins behind the Muizenberg Railway station and hugs the coast all the way to St James Tidal Pool. The walkway is literally right on the ocean’s edge so you may need to keep a eye out during high tide or risk getting a bit wet. The route is easy enough to follow as there is just a paved concrete beach walkway the whole way along. The way is about 2km and very scenic. When you arrive at St James be sure to have a swim in the tidal pool lined with colourful wendy houses. If you don’t feel like walking back you can always head to St James train station and buy a ticket back to Muizenberg. This is always a lovely way to experience Muizenberg.

Hike up to Bailey’s Kloof

If you’re looking for a hike to do while in Muizenberg then look no further than Bailey’s Kloof. I have written a full blog post on it here.

Have high tea at Casa Labia

If you’re feeling fancy then be sure to check out Casa Labia while in Muizenberg. They offer a high tea for R350 per person. I have never been to the Casa Labia but it is a beautiful historical building and will definitely satisfy all your luxury cravings (all photos from their website).

Eat dinner at the Bluebird Garage Food & Goods Market

Every Thursday and Friday night there is a food and goods market inside this old warehouse. Pull through for dinner with a group of friends and choose from the amazing array of different foods. They have everything from sushi, to falafel, pizza, burgers, salads and a wide variety of sweet treats for afterwards. Check out their website for more information.

I hope this comprehensive guide has been helpful in planning your next day out adventure to Muizenberg. If you’re looking for more Deep South hidden gems then check out this blog post.
